Carlow watchmakers hit the big time with invite to New York expo

#1 Sidereus Newgrange Moon Phase with Quartzite White Dial ... timeless elegance
A CARLOW-BASED watch brand is ticking all the right boxes to secure its place on 5th Avenue, New York next week.
Sidereus, based in Kilgraney House, Bagenalstown, will make its US debut at Windup Watch Fair in New York from 18-28 October, introducing American collectors and enthusiasts to timepieces inspired by Ireland’s ancient timekeeping traditions, stretching back over five millennia.
Bryan Leech and Martin Marley, co-founders of Sidereus Watches, were inspired by Ireland’s horological heritage, and this is reflected in the design of their timepieces.
They set out to design wristwatches that would celebrate the origins of horology and the marking of time in Ireland for over 5,000 years with a collection of timepieces inspired by, and named after, the three main monuments found at Brú na Bóinne: Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth.
“Our collection celebrates the intersection of ancient Irish knowledge and modern horological design,” said co-founder Bryan Leech. “These structures were some of the earliest calendars, used to mark significant moments in the year, and Sidereus draws on this ancient wisdom to create something timeless for today’s watch collectors.” To maintain the integrity of the design concept, Bryan designed a case with just two parts – a case bezel that clearly takes inspiration from the tumulus at Newgrange, and a monobloc case back that presents the ‘ground’ to support the watch bezel.
“We believe that timepieces should tell more than just the time – they should tell a story,” adds Bryan. “For Sidereus, that story begins with Ireland’s Neolithic forebearers and their understanding of the universe. It’s a pleasure to bring this story to New York and share our passion for timekeeping with a global audience.
“We are grateful for the invaluable support, mentoring and assistance from Carlow Local Enterprise Office, which has played a key role in bringing this project to life.” As the Windup Watch Fair approaches, anticipation builds for what promises to be a defining moment for the brand, as Sidereus sets the stage for Irish luxury in the heart of Manhattan.
This year’s Windup Watch Fair is taking place at a new venue, Center415 on 5th Avenue, between 37th and 38th streets. The fair is open to the public and entrance is free of charge.
