Carlow rents rise by almost 8%

It now costs €1,545 a month to rent a two-bed semi in Carlow
RENTS in Carlow were 7.9% higher in the third quarter of 2024 than a year previously, according to the latest report from Daft.ie. The average listed rent in Carlow is now €1,545 for a two-bed semi.
Rents in Carlow’s surrounding counties rose 8.5% year-on-year, compared with 12.4% earlier in the year. The ongoing increase in rents reflects very tight availability, with just over 120 homes available to rent on 1 November, up slightly year-on-year but still well below the late 2010s average.
Nationwide, market rents rose by an average of 1.7% in the third quarter of 2024, marking the 15th consecutive quarter in which rents have increased across the country.
The average open-market rent nationwide in the third quarter of the year was €1,955 a month, up 7.2% year on year and 43% higher than before the pandemic.
After 18 months of improving availability, the number of homes available to rent on the open market is falling. On 1 November, just over 2,400 homes were available to rent across the country, down 14% on the same date a year previously and well below the 2015-19 average of almost 4,400.
