Carlow man appears in court for dangerous driving causing death

The defendant will appear before Carlow Circuit Court

A CARLOW man was last week served with a book of evidence in the local district court, charged with dangerous driving causing death. Patrick Connors, Ivy Cottage, Fruithill, Graiguecullen faces the charge arising from an incident that occurred at Ballybannon, Carlow on 9 August 2014.

Garda Caroline O’Malley said that she served Mr Connors (44) with the book that morning, while state solicitor Brendan O’Flaherty said that the DPP’s directions were dated 13 June 2017. The court also heard that Mr Connors had left the jurisdiction, hence the delay in the case.

Judge Geraldine Carthy then put the defendant on an alibi warning, meaning that if he is to rely on an alibi, he must inform the gardaí.

She then sent Mr Connors forward to the next sitting of Carlow Circuit Court on 11 November. She also granted solicitor Joe Farrell legal aid and extended it to cover a junior counsel in the circuit court.
