Captivating Carlow short film Uncle Eric is selected for prestigious screening

Local business Creative Productions is thrilled to announce that its first short film Uncle Eric has been selected for screening at the prestigious 2024 Underground Cinema Awards.

Produced in February of this year, Uncle Eric tells the story of Terry, a young man who, during a visit to see his uncle, discovers they share more in common than he ever expected.

The film showcases the exceptional talents of local actors Rory Moran and Julien Jully, who are well known on the amateur drama circuit. More recently, Rory appeared in the acclaimed Ollie Hennessy musical Letters from the from Front, while Julien took on the memorable role of the chef in Striking Productions' The Little Mermaid

Directed by award-winning playwright and poet Darren Donohue, known for his acclaimed plays developed and produced by prestigious theatres such as the Abbey in Dublin and the Irish Repertory Theatre in New York. Darren brings his unique writing and vision to Uncle Eric

The entire film was shot on location in Goresbridge over two days in February and captures the local charm and beauty of the surrounding area.

 “Collaborating with Creative Productions on Uncle Eric has been a remarkable journey, with one of the many highlights being the opportunity to work with the exceptional talent Carlow has to offer,” said Darren Donohue, the film’s director.

The film was fortunate to have award-winning Kevin Hughes as director of photography and colourist. Working closely with the director, he crafted the film’s distinctive look and feel through expert lighting, framing and camera movement.

Based in Kilkenny, Kevin is a seasoned filmmaker and artist with over 25 years of experience and more than 40 films to his credit.

Carlow creative Richard Doyle, founder of Creative Productions, said: “We are incredibly proud of Uncle Eric and the hard work and dedication from everyone involved in bringing this wonderful film to life.”

Richard produced and edited the film and has over 18 years of experience in the TV and video production industry. Richard’s notable TV works include SOS: Save Our Shops, Coming Home for Christmasand Dublin Airport: Life Stories for TV3 (now Virgin Media Television).

As Uncle Eric embarks on the Irish short film festival circuit, it is set to captivate audiences with its compelling story, stunning visuals and powerful performances.

The film hopes to have an official Carlow premiere later in the year for local audiences and also aims to screen the film at festivals across Europe, the USA and Canada later in 2024 and 2025, aspiring to receive nominations along the way.
