Calls for Tullow's CCTV to be reinstated

Some people feel they can get away with things in Tullow now that the CCTV is no longer working

A SMALL group in Tullow “feel they can do what they want and are not going to get caught.” That’s the view of new councillor Ben Ward, who stressed the need for CCTV to be reinstated in the town.

Cllr Ward brought forward a notice of motion to the July meeting of Carlow County Council calling on the council to “make it a priority to uphold law and order in Tullow by finding a solution to get the CCTV network back in operation and advocating for an increased garda presence".

His motion was seconded by cllr Brian O’Donoghue.

Cllr Ward stressed that people should be caught and punished, pointing to incidents at Tullow Town Park.

The Fine Gael councillor urged all to “find a solution to have the CCTV network back up and running”.

Cllr O’Donoghue stated that he had spoken to the superintendent and “fully supported a working CCTV service" in Tullow. “We have a role to play, a huge role to play, in getting this underway,” he added.

The motion was then passed by all members.
