Bursaries available to local history authors

Bursaries available to local history authors

The grant will cover the costs of research and publication up to €3,000

THE local history and archives section of Carlow County Council’s Library Service buys catalogues and adds to the library collection any publications that are of local interest and written by local authors as they are published and released.

The local authority recognises the importance of creating opportunities to support ongoing research and publication at a local level and through the library service, so it has developed a bursary scheme to help authors and researchers in pursuing projects which will culminate in the publication of a book relevant to the history of the county.

The aim of the scheme is to encourage new local research and local history studies as a means of recognising the significant contribution of local historians in furthering fields of study relating to the history of Co Carlow and its environs. The scheme aims to make the outputs of the research freely available to the public with a view to contributing to a significant and publicly-accessible legacy for Co Carlow’s history.

The purpose of this grant is to provide support for the direct costs of research and publication up to the maximum of €3,000.

An application form is available on request to library@carlowcoco.ie, or on www.carlowlibraries.ie. All queries can be sent to library@carlowcoco.ie.
