Bagenalstown's MARYANN set for Culture Night lineup after Electric Picnic debut

Bagenalstown singer-songwriter MARYANN is bringing an all-female music lineup to Ewings Bar in Carlow for Culture Night, hot on the heels of her first appearance at Electric Picnic.

MARYANN played the Hazelwood Stage (Choill Choill) at Stradbally Hall on the Thursday night of this year's festival, as part of an all-female bill alongside Ent’racte, Léaró and Susan Walsh, with Bláithín De Búrca on MC duties. Irish acts featured heavily across the festival, with CMAT, The Saw Doctors, The Mary Wallopers and Fontaines D.C. among the names topping the main stage, alongside a wide range of emerging Irish talent performing across the site.

Known for a pop sound that pairs feel-good energy with emotional depth, MARYANN’s songwriting explores the ups and downs of everyday life with honesty and humour. While she performed solo at Electric Picnic, she more often takes to the stage with her all-female band, and has become a familiar name on the Carlow gig circuit, having played Carlow Arts Festival, Light Fest in Carlow, Yulefest Kilkenny, and her own Christmas show, ‘A Very MARYANN Christmas’, at Scragg’s Alley last year. She has also opened for Róisín Ó at Cleere's in Kilkenny, and played further afield at the Record Room in Limerick and Fred Zeppelin's in Cork.

Her next project is a female-fronted music showcase she has organised at Ewings Bar for Culture Night, taking place on Friday 18 September. MARYANN will be joined by Rebecca Talita, Just Alice, Ava Doyle and Lauran Murphy for the free event, with doors opening at 6.30pm and performances running from 7pm to 9.45pm.

In keeping with the spirit of Culture Night, admission is free, though attendees will have the option to make a donation of their choosing on the night in support of the performers. Tickets can be reserved in advance at tickettailor.com, or by searching for the event on the Culture Night website.
