MADE IN CARLOW recently held a farewell art gathering to commemorate its Tullow Street premises as the gallery prepares to relocate. Upcoming development works have forced a move to the Haddens Centre.
Speaking to
, Maurice O’Reilly of Made In Carlow said: “I’m very happy about the new space, I think it’s a great fit. Shaws and Haddens are great – they’re the life of Tullow Street and they’re very into the whole shop local thing, which is what we do.
“I’m delighted with how things are going. We’ve built something here that’s pretty special. It’s all about local art and local craft. We’ve been able to give back a lot to local artists and I think that’s a very positive thing.
“We pay between €70,000 and €100,000 to local artists every year for the sale of their works and we’ve got a great base of local customers and local businesses who support us.”
Made In Carlow has been a refuge for local art and crafts work on Tullow Street for more than seven years, representing over 100 local and regional artists. The gallery showcases paintings and prints, photography, ceramics, woodwork, jewellery and much more – all created by a growing list of local contributors.
Mr O’Reilly continued: “I’m very committed to this. I’ve been doing it now for the past seven years and I’ve seen it build and I’m very positive about the future. With Made in Carlow, we’ve kind of established the brand and it’s time to build on that.”
The response it has received since the move was announced has been overwhelming, with customers and artists alike offering congratulations and support to Made In Carlow, as well as a helping hand with the upcoming move.
