Ardattin Fundraisers' tractor run was a roaring success

And they're off!

THERE was an impressive turnout of modern and vintage vehicles when the Ardattin Fundraisers, a self-explanatory community group, organised its annual tractor run.

Big ones and small ones

“We had old ones and new ones, big ones and small ones. We had all sorts of tractors,” said Teresa Mannering, who’s a member of the committee.

On a rather dry but cloudy recent Sunday, up to 35 tractors and ten cars assembled near the community hall in Ardattin.

All of the vehicles set up for an hour-long jaunt along the highways and byways around the Tullow area, driving through the leafy countryside of Aghade, Rathglass, Tullowclay and Monaughrim Cross before looping back for a big get-together.

It was thirsty work so the hot food and refreshments, which were provided free of charge by Gerry and Margaret Mellett and their son Gerard, was more than welcome.

Brilliant atmosphere

“The atmosphere was brilliant in the pub and we’d like to thank the Melletts and everyone who took part in the tractor run or supported it in any way,” continued Teresa.

“We raised a total of €1,300, so it was a great day for us.”

Formed about ten years ago

The Ardattin Fundraisers was formed about ten years ago and has been raising money, mostly for the Carlow/Kilkenny Homecare Team, throughout that time.

Members of the group will now present all of the funds raised to Mary Foster, a stalwart of the Carlow/Kilkenny Homecare Committee.
