A MAN who allegedly sexually assaulted both a man and a woman on the Carlow-Athy train will have to return to court at the end of March to find out how his case is to progress.

“Really! It’s so wrong!” commented Judge Desmond Zaidan after hearing an outline of the case in Athy District Court, where the man’s case was getting a preliminary airing.

Garda Emma Carroll told the court that “on 3 November 2023 on a train journey between Carlow and Athy, he engaged in some inappropriate touching”.

“He rubbed his hand along his thigh, and touched her breast,” she clarified.

“The male reported it at the next stop, and he was arrested that night,” she said.

“He says he does not remember,” said Garda Carroll.

Because a translator in the man’s home tongue could not make it to court this week, Judge Zaidan said: “I will extend translator services to assist, if you can have the two victims here on the next day,” he said to Garda Carroll.

He then remanded the man on continuing bail until the 25 March sitting of the court.
