Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon TD, confirmed to The Echo on Tuesday evening that samples taken from captive birds which died at Fota Wildlife Park have tested positive for avian influenza virus.

The young drill, who was born on July 18th, is the offspring of nine year old mother Lewa and ten year old father Ekona. Drills are a rare primate species closely related to mandrills.  

The baby François' langur was born on February 1st—St Brigid’s Day—to mother Mei, and father Shinobi, who are both nine years old.
