Simon Harris is in Lebanon for a series of political engagements and to meet members of the 125th Infantry Battalion who are serving as part of a UN peacekeeping mission.

The Tánaiste is to visit Irish peacekeeping troops in the country.

Simon Harris’ comments come on the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

A commanding officer of the peacekeeping battalion said that amid the escalating conflict in Lebanon, troops ‘will look after each other’.

Israeli forces have recently breached the Blue Line demarcation between southern Lebanon and Israel, which is observed by Irish peacekeepers.

Leo Varadkar said he was never a fan of the triple lock and that he did not regard the concept as being part of Irish neutrality.
