The Northern Ireland Environment Agency confirmed an insect found on Friday was an Asian hornet.

It's after the first confirmed sighting of an Asian hornet in Northern Ireland.

Ms Ní Bhriain told the Neil Prendeville show on Cork’s Red FM that, contrary to press reports, there is no confirmation or evidence of any other nests in Ireland other than the one that was detected last month.

The nest was discovered near where one of the invasive insects were seen earlier this month.

The Asian hornet feeds on native bees and wasps, damaging biodiversity.
