The man has been named locally as Colm Lynch O’Sullivan (22) of Cloncourse, Ballaghmore, Laois. He was originally from Roscrea in Co Tipperary.

President Michael D Higgins led tributes to Garda Kevin Flatley, who died after being hit by a motorbike at a speed checkpoint.

Jack O’Donoghue, (33), Askeaton, Co Limerick, died when his motorcycle left the N69 at Cloonreask, Askeaton, shortly before 8pm, Wednesday.
