A formal appeal over the leniency of the sentences of those indicted for the murder of Private Sean Rooney has been lodged, the Tanaiste has said.

It comes after Natasha Rooney expressed disappointment at a lack of justice for her son Sean, who was killed in Lebanon in 2022.

Martin Joseph, known as ‘Joe’, Cullen, 63, was found guilty of seven counts of sexual assault on various dates between 1993 and 2007 at locations in Co Donegal.
