The Irish Prison Service (IPS) has warned that the new system will be linked to a disciplinary process, and phone privileges may be reduced in the event of misuse or behaviour issues.

The modules to be provided shampooing and conditioning; curling and finger waving; blow drying; setting and styling; colour processes and career planning and job seeking skills.

Prison officers referred to the women as "girls", and frequently used phrases like "in a minute” or “I’ll come back to you” when women were trying to get their attention.

Nicole Chambers (29) alleged the prison officer had assaulted her in a hospital cubicle.
