The Office of the Director of Authorised Intervention, Tuam (ODAIT) said notable evidence was recovered during the reporting period, October 30th to November 28th.

Excavations focused on two areas, including the site of a former workhouse yard and the high stone boundary wall at the site.

Excavation works began last month, intending to recover and forensically analyse the remains of nearly 800 infants buried at the site, many of whom are believed to have been interred in a disused septic tank.

Research indicates that almost 800 babies were buried in a sewerage system at the St Mary’s home in Tuam, Co Galway between 1925 and 1961.
