Met Éireann says temperatures are set to be between the mid to high 20s for most of the week, with Thursday set to be a hot, humid day that could rise to 30 degrees in places.

Speaking on RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland, Murphy said that the weather over the weekend will be “typical Irish weather”, which would mean a mix of sunshine, clouds and some rain.

Temperatures above 29C were recorded in provisional data on Tuesday.

Most places will either touch or break through the 30°C barrier to start the weekend, with a fresh yellow high temperature warning having kicked in.

Dogs Trust recommends walking dogs in the cooler times of the day such as early morning or later in the evening when temperatures are not as high.

The organisation said that it is essential for owners to keep pets cool and safe, as heatstroke is a life-threatening condition that can develop if an animal becomes too hot.
