Suspect detained under Criminal Justice Act as part of crackdown on organised crime

National Crime Agency chief executive Graeme Biggar revealed the extent of criminal activity as he briefed the Policing Board in Belfast.

Gardaí said investigations are ongoing.

The men are due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Monday.

The men were arrested by gardaí from the Donegal Division

They were referred to the National Referral Mechanism, a UK framework to identify and support victims.

The seizure in Limerick came as a result of a joint ‘intelligence-led’ operation.

Det Gda Conroy said Mr O’Donovan was arrested as part of the investigation into the shooting, which he said was linked to “a violent feud involving the Collins family and the O’Donoghue organised crime group”.

A second man remains in garda in connection with the probe by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit. A woman in her forties was also arrested on Saturday afternoon in connection with the investigation.

Aleksandras Kuznecovas (38) and Jonas Pavilionis (46), both of no fixed abode, appeared before a sitting of Cork District Court on Friday afternoon.

A total of seven premises were searched, and a number of items were seized.

An operation involving the National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau as well as armed units arrested five men in the Dublin area.
