A third defendant (now 18) who was found guilty of aiding and abetting the rapes by moving the car in which it occurred was jailed for three and a half years.

In a victim impact statement read out by counsel at a Central Criminal Court sentence hearing on Monday, the now 18-year-old woman said that while she has to live with what happened to her for the rest of the life, she can also live with the fact that she told the truth.

The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted by a margin of 10 -1 on both counts at a sitting of the Central Criminal Court in Cork on Monday

Within 20 minutes of the case resuming on Friday, the presiding Judge Mr Justice Paul McDermott was made aware that the youth was in pain
