The semi-final was won by Australia’s Peter Bol in 1:46.21 ahead of Japan’s Allon Tatsunami Clay (1:46.47) and Jamaica’s Navasky Anderson (1:46.65).

The last time Irish athletes were in Japan, the Olympics in 2021 were the focus, with stadiums far from full due to the pandemic.

The 31 year old Donegal man added an 800m bronze medal to his collection at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in the Netherlands last week.
