The flight took off from Waterford Airport bound for London Gatwick on Monday, July 8th, 1985.

The 24-year-old, from Newtowncunningham in Co Donegal, was killed when a convoy of Irish troops serving with a UN peacekeeping force was ambushed and fired upon on December 14th, 2022.

The Co Donegal explosion killed 10 people and was described as ‘one of the darkest days’ in Ireland’s history.

Ireland has provided refuge to about 100,000 Ukrainians since the war.

Two members of the State’s security forces were killed during the operation.

A service is to be held at the site of the blast in memory of the ten people who lost their lives last October.
