In a statement released this evening, the airline said they "will have to consider the longer-term implications of implementing the recommendation."

The cancellations will impact flights scheduled for Monday to Wednesday

If these rounds of talks fail, the pilots union said it would return to consider an escalation of its industrial action

Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (Ialpa) said that chances of an additional strike is high after talks in the long-run dispute broke down.

Tens of thousands of passengers have been affected by 270 flight cancellations so far.

Speaking on RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland, Mark Tighe said pilots did not want to be in this situation, but it was the “level of corporate greed” in Aer Lingus that had led to the current dispute.

The pilots’ association and the airline set out their positions at the Labour Court with little chance of an agreement in prospect.

The notice was served by the pilots union IALPA in the last few minutes.

Donal Moriarty, chief corporate affairs officer with Aer Lingus told RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland that the pilots seemed determined to inflict “the disruption of industrial action on the travelling public this summer.”
