Investigators began searching the home in Clondalkin last Thursday.

The searches in relation to the investigation are ongoing and being supported by a cadaver dog from an external agency, a garda statement said.

Ms McCarrick was born in New York in 1967 and was 26 years old at the time of her disappearance. This is the first arrest in the case.

It marks 31 years since she vanished without trace at the age of 26.
