Ceann Comhairle Sean O’Fearghail said the cost of the shelter for 18 bikes was ‘a profound embarrassment’ and anger at it was justified.

The Finance Minister called on those responsible for capital projects to be cognisant of value for money for the taxpayer.

Officials will carry out an immediate full review of the project.

The garda took the bike from a Garda station to give it to a farmer who lived in rural area to use during one of the Covid-19 lockdowns.
