Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch won more than 3,000 first preference votes in the general election, narrowly missing out on a Dáil seat.

The gangland figure missed out on the last seat in the Dublin Central constituency to the Labour Party’s Marie Sherlock.

In an interview with the Sunday Independent, Hutch asserted that Ireland has always needed immigration, but that those coming into the country must be willing to work.
