A GRAIGNAMANAGH lady has managed to raise more than €11,000 for a charity very close to her heart.

Trish Purcell (right), who now lives in Tinryland with her family, raised a substantial €11,477 with the help of friends and family for the Heart Children Ireland support group.

And money is still flooding in from the head shave event, with Trish hoping to clear a staggering €12,000 for the charity.

“It was unbelievable. I was absolutely amazed by the response and the money is still coming in. I’d say we’ll get over €12,000,” said Trish, whose four-year-old daughter Caitriona suffers from a congenital heart disorder.

Trish’s family have been bowled over by the hard work and assistance of the national support group.

“It’s such a good cause. Margaret Rogers from Heart Children Ireland came down to accept the cheque and was dumbstruck by how much we raised,” added Trish, who shaved her head to raise some of the funds.

A cheque was presented to the charity on Saturday 21 January at Palatine GAA clubhouse, which also hosted the charity event in November.

“I just want to say thanks to everyone who was involved and everyone who donated, and particularly to Pal clubhouse, which hosted both nights,” she added.

A great night was had by all at the cheque presentation, with Trish’s sister Tina Kavanagh and band mate Denis Staunton whipping the crowd into a frenzy when they took to the stage as Two of a Kind.

“We had a great night. I’m absolutely delighted with it all,” added Trish, who will be selling windmills outside Rath’s Londis at Pollerton in Carlow town on Saturday 11 February. The Windmill Day charity drive is an annual fundraiser for Heart Children Ireland and all support would be appreciated.
