HE MAY BE more accustomed to the oval ball, but that certainly didn’t stop rugby star Seán O’Brien receiving a hero’s welcome when he attended the Coolkenno Juvenile GAA Club annual awards night last week.
The Tullow Tank was guest of honour at the event and delighted his young fans by posing for pictures and signing autographs, while also giving them some terrific words of encouragement in their sporting activities.
The event was hosted in the Killerig Resort Hotel and proved a wonderful opportunity to recognise and reflect upon the achievements of the club over the past year.
The master of ceremonies for the night was the club’s own PJ Tompkins. All in attendance reminisced warmly about their own experiences with Coolkenno down through the years and also reflected on the need to build upon the current levels of success. The club welcomes children from the community for their under-8, under-12, under-14 and minor teams.
Awards were also given to the Coolkenno players who had represented the county at various levels throughout the year.
Club officers and coaches were also honoured for their hard work and commitment over the past 12 months.
When all of the awards had been handed out, there was an opportunity for those in attendance to have their picture taken with the ever-obliging Seán O’Brien.
