IT WAS two action packed days of interactive investigation, explosive demonstrations and fun at Scoil Chonglais, Baltinglass recently.
To celebrate science week, the school opened its doors to 400 primary school students from Wicklow, Carlow and Kildare.
Students were given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of experiments, from glowing plasma balls and finding ‘buried bodies’ to blowing giant bubbles and going on a virtual walk using Google Earth.
Guided by Scoil Chonglais fifth-year students, each group got the chance to play with quick sand and handle locusts before launching their rockets as far and as high as they could.
Each student participating was set a challenge of making a rocket that would be both accurate and travel a long distance.
The science activities were rounded off as students entered the school lab where a range of weird and wonderful experiments were set up to challenge their understanding and perception of science.
In addition to the various science activities, students also got the chance to use their mathematical abilities to increase their chances of winning various games.
The music department provided entertainment for the visiting students, with musicians, singers and dancers showing off their talents.
Fifth-year students presented details of the various sports clubs and extracurricular activities on offer to Scoil Chonglais students.
These include hip-hop dancing, GAA, soccer, rugby, tug of war, chess, debating, Young Scientist, athletics, green schools, golf and meitheal.
The event was coordinated by Dorothy Fox with the help of all the staff and students at the school.
