AROUND CARLOW TOWNWith Mairead Wilmot
CHILDREN in Gaelscoil Eoghain Ui; Thuairisc had a right bunch of Wallys teaching them before the midterm break.
No, we’re not insulting the teachers; instead, they got into the spirit of Halloween and dressed up, along with hundreds of pupils in the school.
Getting into the swing of things, teachers in the Irish-speaking primary school donned the funny costumes as part of the school’s “recession resistant” good humour.
Here they are (pictured) keeping control on a rowdy bunch of monsters (aka pupils) before the school closed for the midterm break.

Little bookworms come out of the woodwork for special readings
THERE were lots of little bookworms coming out of the woodwork in Carlow Library recently. As part of the Children’s Book Festival last month, kids from across the county were treated to a number of readings by well-known authors.
On Monday 17 October, Maeve Friel delighted children from Bennekerry NS and Killeshin NS with some very animated readings from her Witch in Training series.
“She put on the voices ... the kids were enthralled; they really enjoyed it,” laughed librarian Fiona Roberts.
Almost 80 pupils from second class descended on the central library to listen to the great tales.
“They all like it, the books are very popular here and she interacted well with the kids,” added Fiona.
Ms Friel, who recently launched a new series called Tigerlily, was bombarded with questions by the inquisitive youngsters, who had a great time learning outside the classroom.
Other authors who visited Carlow during the book festival were David Donohue and Irish-language author Laoise Ni; Chomhrai. Both writers gave readings to other school children from the county, and Mr Donohue visited Tullow Library for a special event there during the festival.
