The Coronas proved the biggest hit of the four-day festival, drawing a crowd of 10,000 according to organisers.
The well-known foursome delighted the crowd of young and old alike with some of their biggest hits, including San Diego Song and Grace Don’t Wait. Festivities got underway in the west Wicklow town on Thursday with the grand opening by festival rose Grace Murphy.
Grace, from Kiltegan, won the festival rose crown on Friday 20 August during a selection night held in Germaine’s bar in aid of cancer research. Grace took to the stage on Thursday as part of her official duties to open the ceremony, with Crystal Swing headlining the night.
The family musical ensemble delighted members of the local KARE facility, the Lalor Centre, by giving an impromptu performance on Thursday afternoon before taking to the stage that evening.
The four-day outdoor free festival was organised by local businesses and community groups and was a great success, according to everyone we spoke to.
“It went really well. We got a lot more people than we expected on Saturday for the Coronas and there were droves and droves of people around the town all weekend,” said Niamh Kearney, PRO of the organising committee.
The American Drifters took to the stage on Friday night, while Aslan closed the festival with an adrenalin-filled set on Sunday. Crowds of families and friends gathered during the day and night to enjoy the free entertainment, as magicians, face painters and much more delighted crowds during the day.
