THEY came out of nowhere, but there’s no doubt they are heading somewhere.
Brendogg and Bolsak, two Carlow rappers, are about to leave their comrades in the shadows as their star explodes on the national scene.
The boys from Carlow town, along with their sidekick DJ Willhouse, are about to feature on RTÉ’s Republic of Telly on Monday 20 February, with their own special blend of comedy rap.
Know to their families as Brendan Reddy, Sam O’Rourke and William O’Broin, the boys will be among the new season’s cast of characters for 2012.
They took to the streets of Carlow last Friday and Saturday to film their Republic of Telly segment, which will feature their song 059.
The boys’ stellar leap to fame has been as quick as it can be, with Brendan revealing they have been working together as a group for roughly six months.
About four months ago, they uploaded a homemade video for 059 onto YouTube on a Saturday night and by Monday morning 10,000 people had seen it.
“We got a call from the Republic of Telly after they saw 059,” explained Brendan, who said they met the show’s producers in RTÉ.
“We sent them ideas for a few sketches and it went from there.”
The Carlow boys are now going to be a permanent feature on the popular show for the next season
“We’ll be shooting again for them in two weeks,” said Brendan, who admitted the Brendogg and Balsak team are thrilled with their luck to date.
“We’re still as excited now as when we first found out we’d be on TV.”
You can get an early preview of the boys’ work by checking out YouTube or heading onto their Facebook page.
