THREE LOCAL ladies put their knowledge of Ireland to the test as part of a new game show series on RTÉ.

Carlow auctioneers Maura Fenlon, Nora Meaney and Sharon O’Leary will be pitted against three agricultural consultants on Friday 10 February on the Who Knows Ireland Best programme.

Maura and Sharon, auctioneers at Carlow Property Management, and Nora, who works at Sherry Fitzgerald, filmed the half-hour segment in October and are now awaiting their small screen debut.

“I’ll have a big blanket up to my eyes and I’ll be peeping out over it to watch. There were a few cringeworthy moments,” joked Maura.

“It was a bit of fun, a nice break. We had right craic – some of the questions were totally off the wall,” laughed Maura.

The programme, hosted by Derek Mooney, sees trios from differing professions coming head-to-head to find out who knows Ireland best. The professionals have to guess how 100 people answered a variety of questions about our country in an online survey.

“There was an online survey done before the show, so we had to second guess that. There were no brains required,” joked Maura.

The trio, who have been friends for years, thoroughly enjoyed their debut into the TV world, and could no doubt get used to the celebrity lifestyle.

“Pamela Scott provided us with our clothes and let us keep them, so we have to say a huge thanks to them. And Connie Byrne Hyland did my hair for free that morning, so I’d like to thank Connie. Much fun was had by all. It added a bit of spice into our working week,” added Maura.

So don’t forget to tune in next Friday at 8.30pm on RTÉ One to see whether our local ladies really do know best.
