HARRY Byrne took a trip down memory lane recently when he rang the Eucharistic Congress Bell.

Harry, from Staunton Avenue, Graiguecullen, is a resident at Drakelands House Nursing Home, Kilkenny and he, along with other residents and staff, welcomed the bell as it toured the Diocese of Ossory en route to the International Eucharistic Congress in Dublin next June.

It was a poignant moment for Harry, who attended the last Eucharistic Congress in Dublin’s Phoenix Park back in 1932 as a baby in his mother’s arms.

“I am very privileged to be able to ring the bell,” Harry said, “and to remember my mother, who had great faith”.

The bell is touring the country and calling people to prayer along with highlighting the upcoming event in Dublin next June.

“This is a very special occasion for residents living here,” said Mary O’Carroll, active lifestyle facilitator at Drakelands House.

“Not everyone is in a position to get out into their parish and be involved in such significant events.”
