CARLOW town centre ground to a halt on Friday morning when a mother-of-one was tragically killed in a road accident.
Margaret Corcoran (37) was killed when she stepped in front of an articulated lorry at Thompson’s Corner at around 11am.
Emergency services responded immediately and were on the scene within minutes as traff ic was diverted away from the bottom of Barrack Street, while ambulance crews worked frantically to save Ms Corcoran’s life. Tarpaulin was erected on either side of the lorry to allow crews to work on Ms Corcoran privately, as large crowds gathered.
Ms Corcoran, originally from Hillbrook Estate, Tullow, was pronounced dead at the scene and was buried yesterday (Monday) in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Tullow following Requiem Mass.
A former pupil of St Laserian’s School, Ms Corcoran was recently residing in Carlow town.
Her eight-year-old son Ryan and devastated family members were present at Monday’s funeral, which was officiated by Mgr Brendan Byrne.
Speaking about Ms Corcoran, Mgr Byrne described her in glowing terms. “She really idolised her son, he was her life. She was a very kind and gentle woman who really did try to do her best. While life wasn’t easy for her, she had God’s love to care for her.”
Margaret was predeceased by her mother Peggy Corcoran and is survived by her devastated family including her son Ryan, sister Brenda, brothers Eugene, Pat and Raymond.
