Great start for local rowers

CARLOW Rowing Club had a brilliant start to the regatta season at Islandbridge in Dublin last weekend probably the best start to the season the club has enjoyed over the last few years. On saturday at Neptune regatta Carlows Aaron Bolger and Leon Flemming won the mens junior 16 double scull comfortably. Leon also made it to the final of the mens junior 16 sculls.Also in the sculling event Colm Murphy had a great win in the mens novice sculls. These crews are coached by Tony Dooley and David Buckley. The mens junior 15 quad coached by Anthony Dooley won there heats and the crew of Niall Murphy Stephen Chubb Christian Dorneaux Simon and coxed by Brendan Byrne went on to win the final and made it a tally of three pots for Carlow at Neptune

Carlow went to Commercial regatta at the same venue on Sunday. The mens junior 15 8 of Zachary Brannigan Simon Hayden Dermot Scully Leon Flemming Christian Dorneaux Stephen Chubb Jason Mc Sweeney Niall Murphy and cox Brendan Byrne were the winners of this event . This upcoming crew coached by Brendan Duke and Anthony Dooley beat St Michael,s from Limerick to take the mens junior 15 title.Carlows womens crews also enjoyed success at Commercial Regatta four of the womens junior squad coached by Paddy Behan and Kathryn Wall raced at senior level and the crew of Lydia Cullen Helen O,Malley Brona Creen Hazel Keogh and coxed by Kate Lynam Jones beat Neptune in the final of the womens novice fours. Carlows Kate Dooley and Jessica O’Neill coached by Eamon Doogue beat Killorglin in the final of the womens junior 16 double scull. The Carlow mens junior 16 coxed quad. Leon Flemming Aaron Bolger Stephen Chubb Niall Murphy cox Brendan Byrne and coached by David Buckley and Tony Dooley won the mens junior 16 coxed quads event and brought Carlows total to seven wins in a highly successfull weekend.
