Co Carlow Sports Stars Awards
July to September

THE SEVEN OAKS Hotel Milford Room was packed to capacity on Friday night for the third Co Carlow Sports Stars quarterly awards ceremony of 2017.
A total of 12 awards were handed out on the night to mark some fantastic sporting performances during the months of July, August and September.
Equestrian sports were well represented with Rachel Carr, Holly Malone, Megan Telford Kelly and Ailish Osborne from Carlow Hunt Pony Club all taking home awards to mark their All-Ireland Combined Training victories.
There was also an award for Hacketstown’s Tracy Walshe after her fantastic win at this year’s Burghley Horse Trials in England in August.

Community Games was recognised with Jenny Sawyer taking home an award after winning Carlow’s only gold medal on the track at this year’s national finals. International athlete Jack Mitchell also won an award after a fine summer which culminated in him winning two gold medals for Ireland at the Celtic Games.
Tullow man Terry Kirwan was recognised for winning the national boccia championship title while Carlow Dragon Boat Racing Club brought a huge crowd to celebrate their medal-winning performances in this summer’s European Championships in France.

In Gaelic Games, awards went to Éire Óg’s Darragh O’Brien and Jack Kavanagh of St Mullins who excelled for their clubs in this year’s championships while Elaine Ware won an award after a series of inspiring performances in the colours of Carlow and Bennekerry-Tinryland.
National Youth Championship medal-winning cycling Ciaran Townsend also won an award on the night, as did snooker player TJ Dowling who was part of the Irish team that won the Home International title in August.
There was also recognition for Carlow Rowing Club’s Cliodhna Nolan who became the club’s first female winner at the national championships since 2001 at this year’s event in Cork in July.
The final quarterly sports awards ceremony for achievements in 2017 will take place in January while the gala awards night for the year takes place in the Seven Oaks in February.
