A PENSIONER in his 90s was last week terrified and robbed after three men broke into his isolated cottage and took a quantity of cash.

The man was so petrified after the heartless crime that he didn’t call the gardaí and the incident only came to light days later when a neighbour dropped in to check on him.

The three men didn’t use violence on him. They didn’t need to because he wasn’t in any position to defend himself,” a garda spokesperson told The Nationalist. “He’s a very vulnerable person whose living conditions were fairly rough. There’s no security around his house and he has very little contact with the outside world.”

Gardaí in Tullow who are investigating the callous crime believe that the burglars gained entry to the old man’s house at around 10pm on Wednesday night and, after turning the place upside down, they made off with an unknown sum of cash. The elderly victim was unable to provide the gardaí with an accurate description of the burglars.

Gardaí are anxious to talk to anyone who was in the Parkbridge Road area of Clonegal at 10pm on Wednesday night and they are particularly anxious about identifying the car that the thieves may have used.
