TWO of the most successful and renowned managers in the history of the GAA, Kilkenny’s Brian Cody and Dublin’s Jim Gavin, are coming to Carlow on Easter Saturday 15 April as part of a top-quality coaching conference which is being jointly organised by Carlow GAA and IT Carlow.
The multiple All-Ireland winning managers are the two keynote speakers at the conference which will also include expert hurling and football-specific coaching sessions and a lively panel discussion involving DJ Carey, Carlow intercounty players Daniel St Ledger and Marty Kavanagh, IT Carlow GAA director Michael Dempsey and Leinster Council chairman Jim Bolger.
“Instead of aiming specifically at nursery, youth or adult coaches we are going for a catch-all. We want to appeal to all strands of the GAA,” said Carlow GAA operations manager Ronan Dempsey.
“We are trying to make it accessible to anyone who has even the slightest interest in GAA, and particularly Carlow GAA.”
The relationship between IT Carlow and Carlow GAA has blossomed with much collaboration between both organisations. IT Carlow’s director of sport Donal McNally is spearheading the college’s input.
“We are delighted to be teaming up with Carlow GAA to host the 2017 coaching conference,” said McNally. “We’re particularly delighted to have two high-profile managers in Brian Cody and Jim Gavin involved as keynote speakers and it’s a fantastic opportunity to hear about their coaching philosophies.”
‘Uniting a County’ takes place on Saturday (15 April) at IT Carlow’s Haughton Building from 9am to 3pm. The cost per person is €20 and bookings can be made through the Carlow GAA website.
