THE Palatine GAA club dinner dance which was held in the Woodford Dolmen Hotel last Saturday week was a joyous occasion. A capacity crowd cheered each and every member of the successful senior panel as they stepped forward to receive their championship medals.

For the first time ever, a Kerry man took the senior footballer of the year award. Chris Crowley, who is a student at IT Carlow, was deemed to be an excellent choice. Adam Duggan won the junior player of the season award, while prominent minor John Byrne took the young player of the year award.

Seamie Woods, who was a member of the 1972 senior hurling championship winning team, was the Hall of Fame recipient.

Special recognition awards went to outgoing chairman Ray Dempsey and long-time Palatine stalwart John Browne.
Club person of the year was the hugely popular Pat Carroll who has been one of the big driving forces in the excellent maintenance of the club facilities and the grounds.

Dual player Niall Reid won the hurler of the year award while Eddie McGarry’s work with the underage structure saw him win the juvenile club person of the year award.

From the Cnoc Arda ladies club, Michelle Rooney won the ladies footballer of the year award and Geraldine Sheehy was a popular choice for the ladies club person of the year award.
