A COURGEOUS Tullow girl will fly the Irish flag in Germany next weekend when she represents Ireland at the European Lions Youth Award/Young Ambassador Programme.

Orla Jackman from Crosslow, Tullow has already sailed through the Carlow, regional, all-Ireland and the multi-district final of Britain and Ireland rounds of the competition and now has her sights set on Europe!

The competition takes place in Augsburg near Munich in Germany on the weekend of 9-11 October, welcoming young people from all over Europe.

Daughter of Ronan and Maire Jackman, Orla’s courageously overcame leukaemia as a young teenager and since then has used her experiences to champion the cause of children living with cancer.

She has spearheaded the Cycle With Orla annual charity event in aid of Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and is a member of the hospital’s youth advisory council.

Orla is also an active member of St Anne’s GAA Club in Tullow, a former Meitheal member and winner of the all-Ireland Pramerica Spirit of the Community Award in 2013. She also is a previous winner of a County Carlow Person of the Year Award.

“She’s an absolutely fantastic individual … an example to everyone,” enthused Eoin Kehoe of Carlow Lions.

“She was an outstanding candidate in the Britain and Ireland competition, where the competition was incredibly tough, as you can imagine,” he added. “All at Carlow Lions Club are very proud of Orla and wish her well in Germany,” he added.
